Ministry Update
OCTOBER
The new 2016/17 school year began with lots of smiling little faces. Soon after, the Eldorado Backyard Bible Club was back underway, marking its 7th year. This is the children’s ministry that Melony and Pastor Joe McGee originally started. It has since grown to incorporate several area pastors and lay leaders who collectively donate their time each Thursday afternoon of the school year building relationships and teaching the Word of God to children in 2nd-4th grades.
Towards the end of the month we received an unusual phone call from Mark & Shelly McMillan who live in East Texas. Mark proceeded to tell me that they wanted to donate a 1 yr old steer to the AIYM camp! So, a few days later we sent a truck & trailer to pick up Mr. “Sir Loin.” The Homer family of Eldorado graciously volunteered to feed him out over the next few months to fatten him up a bit on their ranch. Today, “Sir Loin” is being packaged to ship to Colorado for all the visiting summer mission teams to enjoy! Thank you McMillan & Homer Families!
The day before Halloween we hosted a children’s fishing “adventure” at the Magnum Lodge. The kids had never fished before so it was a real thrill for them and the volunteer fishing guides too! One little boy, Fernando, got so excited he could not speak so he just jumped up and down for 5 full minutes! He really did catch this big fish!
NOVEMBER
We hosted the little Rainbow’s from Agape Church in Eldorado on an “in house” African Safari! The children, ages 5-10, enjoyed seeing all the exhibits as well as sneaking a touch on the lioness. Afterwards, Jim shared a children’s level bible story about God’s beautiful creations.
Later in the month we had the privilege of working with some of the youth here in Eldorado that are either “fatherless” or primarily absent due to work, divorce or incarceration. With the wonderful cooperation of the SCISD School Superintendent Robert Gibson and Middle School Principal Ezra Walling, we were able to teach the kids some of the responsibility and safety in handling firearms. This was a stepping stone in building relationships with them and their families.
DECEMBER
Now it was time to see what the kids had learned during their firearm safety training classes! A hunt was scheduled on a local ranch with the agreement that the kids could keep the antlers and some of the meat but with the stipulation that the majority of venison would be donated to the Daily Bread Program.  This is a local non-profit which provides hot meals to the elderly and hungry in Eldorado. The kids had a great time and were very successful as seen by the look in their faces. Oh, and one mother too!!
A few days before Christmas we hosted a Christmas Dinner for some of these same families plus other special friends. Melony prepared a wonderful roasted turkey, dressing, and many side dishes. Desert was of course a big hit with the kids. Afterwards, Pastor Peter Thornton shared the Christmas story. He did a wonderful job and his wife Maria gave a lovely prayer. An invitation was given and a mother and her fatherless son received the greatest gift of all, an eternal Father that will never leave them nor forsake them! PTL!
JANUARY
Melony went to help with Eldorado’s “Daily Bread” program. This program was initiated by Schleicher County Sherriff David Doran who truly has a servant’s heart. Here, she is working alongside other volunteers preparing meals for delivery to the elderly.
Through the leading of the Holy Spirit we traveled back to Kenya East Africa on our 4th missionary tour of duty there. We absolutely love Africa! We landed in Nairobi then made a long trek to a remote area in north central Kenya inhabited by the Samburu tribe, a close relative of the infamous Maasai tribe. These people live in mud huts without electricity or running water. Many have never met a white person but were very welcoming. Most believe in spirit gods and practice polygamy. There we conducted “hut to hut” evangelism and shared the Jesus Film with the help of pastors from Life Changing Discipleship Ministries, who served as our translators. Afterwards, we traveled to Nakuru where we stayed, traveling to local towns to hold pastor conferences to encourage them in evangelizing the areas they lived in. By the end of our two week journey we witnessed over 250 professions of faith! God is good! These same pastors are already actively doing follow up and inviting new Christians to become part of their church family.
After our mission work was completed, we treated ourselves to an exciting 2 day exploratory trip to the legendary Maasai Mara National Park located in southern Kenya. We returned to Nairobi in time to visit the Karen Blixen Museum, made famous by the movie “Out of Africa,” Nairobi National Museum, Nairobi Animal Orphanage and a Crocodile Farm! Later that evening we began our journey home.  Jesus Christ commands us to “GO” into all the world. (Matt 28:18-20). Please pray and ask the Lord if you should be part of our 2018 mission team to Kenya!

Invitation to Partner with Us:
If the Lord has blessed you, why not be a blessing to others? Would you please pray and consider helping us reach families with the truth & love of Jesus Christ? Your financial gift, no matter how small or large, will make a difference this summer at the AIYM High Adventure Camp! We need building materials for mission teams and scholarship funds for kids who may otherwise be left behind. Divorce has left many single mothers struggling to raise their children who are themselves at risk. We believe an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ to be the answer and the glue for every family and every child. You can help us build bridges into families who need to hear the “Word.” Romans 10:17
