Buffomante Dominant in Mustang Challenge
Last year, every Ford Racing Mustang Challenge lap run at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL, had one name atop the chart: Tony Buffomante. Although no one expected him to again take the point for every lap of last Sunday’s Mustang Challenge race, that's exactly what he did. It gave Buffomante his third win of the year and tied him for the series lead with Jason von Kluge heading into the two-race series finale at Miller Motorsports Park on Sept.11-12. |

Sportsman Spotlight - Brian Faessler
Back in May, Paul's Automotive Engineering had scored a successful debut of their 2011 Mustang GT in the National Auto Sports Association (NASA) "American Iron" series, taking second (after starting in 16th) in the Great lakes 3-Hour Enduro at Putnam Park – and Team Faessler hasn't looked back since. Owner Paul Faessler, who splits some driving duties with his son, Brian, reports that the all-new, four-valve 5.0-liter V-8 is "getting a lot of attention everywhere we go, and is running great."
"Brian won his first pole at Beaverun last month," Paul tells us (out-qualifying a two-time National Champion), "and had two second-place finishes. At Mid Ohio in July, Brian again qualified on the pole, led the race flag-to-flag for his first win, and set a new course lap record in the process. The new 5.0 engine has over 1,300 race miles on it, and has performed flawlessly. The power and efficiency of this engine is amazing. We are hoping to be able to make it out to Utah in September for the National Championships, as both the car and driver appear that they will be competitive." Our hats are of to both Paul and Brian Faessler of Paul's Automotive Engineering. |

Read-World Ford Performance Inspires Lake Orion, MI's Jeff Jundt and Family to Persuade Others to 'Drive One'
Our selection this week for the "Ford Fan Spotlight" is the following submission from Leola, SD native Jeff Jundt, who now lives in Lake Orion, MI. Jeff had attended a Ford Performance Group presentation during a Mustang club and owners gathering at a local Ford dealership, and sent along this note:
"I wanted to thank you for the informative Mustang history presentation the other night at Jack Demmer Ford (in Wayne, MI). As part of a Ford family, I grew up with Ford. My dad has always been a Ford man. All the vehicles on our farm – even the semis – are Fords. My father owns and drives several Super Duty trucks, and my mother drives an Excursion. My own daily driver is an F-250 diesel, and my wife drives an AWD Fusion that we recommend to everyone. In fact, several people to whom I've shown our car have bought a Fusion on our suggestion! I met a guy recently whose wife had just totaled their car, so I showed them our Fusion and said to just go "Drive one." The guy let me know that they test-drove one at a dealer and bought it – and they love it, too! (The next new Ford we're looking at is the AWD Escape Hybrid!)"
"But I went to your Mustang presentation at the dealership because I also own a couple of Mach 1s – a 1970 that I've raced and modified for the past 20 years, plus a 2004 that I've kept original. My '70 was a 351 2-barrel, but I later upgraded to a 351 4-barrel, then a Boss 351 and finally (12 years ago) the 530-hp 427 Medium-Riser that's in it now. Most of its miles have been ¼-mile at a time in excess of 6K rpm! I have a fresh, 500-horse 428CJ that I hope to get swapped into it next spring, and later rebuild the 427 for a '26 model T roadster hot rod I'm working on, or Cobra kit car project. But that will have to wait until after I start on a '69 Mach 1 restoration (an R-Code 428CJ, 4-speed car) that I hope to begin this winter!"
I really like the new Mustang body style and would love for Ford to come out with another Mach 1 someday. But I wouldn't want to sell my '70 or the '04 – guess I'll simply need to build a second garage!" We think that makes Jeff and his family true Ford fanatics. If you know of one, then send info and a photo (or a link to a YouTube video) to: AskTFR@Ford.com. You can read about other Ford fanatics we've featured, or just keep checking Fast News each week to see who we might pick next to bask in the glow of Ford Racing's "Ford Fan Spotlight!" |
