President’s Message, July 2009
I am a firm believer that focused planning is what turns organizational goals into real outcomes. We at Communities of Tomorrow engage in a continuing process of planning for outcomes, starting with our long term strategic plan, which is then broken down into shorter term business plans, and then tightly-targeted implementation plans with accountability benchmarks.

Morsky Shotrods System Demonstrated
The Morsky Group of Companies demonstrated its “Shotrods Hy-Speed Soil Nailing System” for media and other interested observers in Regina and Saskatoon this month. Based on technology originally developed for the British military, the Shotrod equipment uses compressed air to drive steel rods into slopes at high speeds, to remediate landslides and halt regression of unsafe scarps.
Communities of Tomorrow has provided research funding to assist the Morsky Group in field-testing the system. [Read more] |

Municipal Innovation Network Gathers Momentum
Efforts by Communities of Tomorrow to build a Municipal Innovation Network in Saskatchewan are beginning to show positive results. A series of meetings and consultations that started in late 2008 are now resulting in a direct focus on innovative solutions to municipal infrastructure challenges.
“We believe that our municipalities will be the centre piece for Saskatchewan becoming the innovative infrastructure capitol of the world,” said Communities of Tomorrow President John Lee. “They are the primary field laboratories for new technologies and systems, and will be the main beneficiaries of innovative approaches.”

Welcome Our New Team Member
Starting in July Communities of Tomorrow welcomes a new member to our team. Samar Baker-Ismail joins us as our Project Development and Research Coordinator. Samar will be working with our partners to facilitate research projects from inception to final reporting.
Samar comes to us with an impressive set of credentials, having spent almost two years as a technical officer at the National Research Council Centre for Sustainable Infrastructure Research. Samar completed her Master’s Degree in Environmental Systems Engineering at the University of Regina. Welcome Samar!
