President’s Message, September 2009
We have recently been working on an update report for all of our stakeholders, and as I read through the content I was encouraged by what we have to report. Communities of Tomorrow is really a unique kind of organization, and because we are really inventing our own operational model, it can sometimes be difficult to measure our progress. What encouraged me about our report is to see a substantial list of innovative products and concepts that our organization has a role in developing, put to work in the real world.

John Lee welcomes Jonathan Levy |
On September 16th and 17th, Communities of Tomorrow welcomed Mr. Jonathan Levy, the Economic Affairs Consul & Trade Commissioner for Israel to Canada.
The main objective during Jonathan's visit to Saskatchewan was to introduce Israel's excellence in water management to water-related organizations, government-based water systems and industries who are involved in the area of water preservation, wastewater, reclamation, management, irrigation, recycling and municipal water projects. Regina-Born Innovation Highlighted in Popular Mechanics

| The Regina Pipe Crawler |
The Regina Pipe Crawler, developed at the University of Regina with support from Communities of Tomorrow, has gained the notice of Popular Mechanics magazine. The July edition of the magazine included a feature story titled "5 High Tech Fixes for Infrastructure" and touched on innovations from more efficient aircraft wings to earthquake-proofing buildings.
On the list of five featured items was the Regina Pipe Crawler, developed by Dr. Mehran Mehrandezh at the University of Regina. [Read more]

Preparations Underway for Municipal Insighting Sessions
Communities of Tomorrow staff are working with a number of Saskatchewan municipalities to prepare brainstorming sessions on innovative approaches to the cities' infrastructure challenges.
"We call the process insighting," says Communities of Tomorrow Technical Support and Business Development Coordinator, Bland Brown. "It's all about getting everyone from equipment operators to city engineers in a room, talking about their big infrastructure problems, and possible solutions." [Read more]

High Skill Interns Become Available in Saskatchewan
A national program to make post-doctoral students available to industry for research projects has come to Saskatchewan, and will become part of the suite of services offered by Communities of Tomorrow.
The program is known as MITACS Accelerate, and operates across Canada with funding from the federal and provincial governments. It provides financial support for graduate and post-doctoral students in 32 disciplines to undertake short term applied research and development internships for companies and public sector organizations.
