The President's Message

We have recently been working on an update report for all of our stakeholders, and as I read through the content I was encouraged by what we have to report. Communities of Tomorrow is really a unique kind of organization, and because we are really inventing our own operational model, it can sometimes be difficult to measure our progress. What encouraged me about our report is to see a substantial list of innovative products and concepts that our organization has a role in developing, put to work in the real world.

The report touches on a number of our partners who have developed infrastructure products and services from conception, to the drawing board, to prototype, to field testing, to commercial products. In each case Communities of Tomorrow has fulfilled its mission of facilitating that process. In some cases we provided funding to assist in research and development. In others we worked with the innovator to find a municipality willing to test their idea. In still others we introduced them to other partners such as Springboard West to help take them from finished concept to market.

We are continuing to build relationships with municipalities, companies and innovative thinkers and have many additional concepts at various stages of research and development. I look forward to reporting on their progress and ultimate success in the future.

Our ongoing effort to build a Municipal Innovation Network in Saskatchewan will take an important step forward this fall, as Communities of Tomorrow staff work with several cities to organize and execute what we call insighting sessions. Our folks along with professional facilitators will be bringing together front line staff of these cities, to explore new ways of looking at existing infrastructure problems and potential solutions. We are appreciative of the support of these municipalities in developing a culture of innovative thinking that will lead to the development of new products and processes, some of which may become exportable products for the massive global infrastructure market.

We have our eyes fixed on the long term vision of Saskatchewan growing a cluster of companies that will supply innovative infrastructure solutions to the world.
