This event lives up to its name as you sample the cuisine of more than 30 of the areas best chefs, including our own Bruce Auden, and sip your way through 200 wines. The Grand Tasting is held on the banks of the river under the Grotto in the new Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center. This area is a well kept secret from San Antonio's locals. While enjoying this unique extension of the River Walk you will understand why this venue is so popular with convention groups. The Grand Tasting starts at 7pm on Saturday, November 14th.

Biga is excited to participate in the New World Wine & Food Festival by hosting the Iron Horse Brunch again this year.
Iron Horse, a family owned Sonoma winery is celebrating 30 years this year and has proudly served their sparkling wine in the White House continuously starting with the historic Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings.
Founders Audrey & Barry Sterling are generously loaning us their daughter, Joy, for the event. She'll be pouring sparkling and still wines as she has for Biga in years past.
Of course, Bruce will be doing his part too. Here are some dishes he's working on for this special brunch...Wild striped bass with fennel confit, Chutney crusted lamb, Ricotta gnocchi with chanterelles and poached egg.
The Iron Horse Brunch will be Sunday, November 15th from 11am to 1:30pm. The cost is $65++. Call Biga for reservations (210)225-0722 For more information about Iron Horse vineyards go to www.ironhorsevineyards.com More information about the New World Wine & Food Festival visit www.nwwff.org

Oh, did we get her name wrong? Okay, we know her name is really "Rachael Ray." But what comes around goes around.
Though it was a great honor to be on Rachael Ray’s Travel Show, there was one thing that was missed by the fact checker. Hoping to inform the viewers of where "Biga" got it’s name, she said some nonsense about "Everything is bigga in Texas."
The truth is that our name has nothing to do with size and is actually Italian in heritage.
Biga (Bee-Guh) is actually a sour dough starter. It is the pre-fermented ingredient in dough that makes our rustic Italian bread more complex in texture and flavor.
We have every intention to forgive Rachael Ray’s flub. After all, our readers are likely to have noticed a few mistakes in this newsletter alone. The truth is that Rachael is very helpful. She encourages those who are normally timid in the kitchen to broaden their cooking horizons and branch out to using other kitchen appliances besides the microwave.
We wish Rachael continued success and would hope she would consider another visit.

The Cancer Center Council (CCC) will be looking for a little support from San Antonio shoppers. The Partners Shopping Card is a great way give and get back at the same time. For a fifty dollar contribution to the CCC shoppers are given a 20% discount at hundreds of participating stores, restaurants and salons during the dates of October 23rd and November 1st.
The much needed donation will benefit The Cancer Therapy & Research Center at The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, a non profit corporation committed to conquer cancer through research, prevention and treatment.
Has there ever been a more noble reason to shop? Its doubtful. In fact, this may be the only guilt free shopping spree you have ever had.
So shop to your heart’s content and when you realize that your day has passed you by and there is no time to make dinner, come to Biga where the food is 20% off with your Partner’s Card.

We're Going on 10 Years - Almost an Adolescent!
It’s hard to believe that our new location is already 10 years old next Spring. The traditional gift for a 10 year anniversary is tin. Since Bruce thought no one but a goat would enjoy “tinny” flavors, we’ve decided to highlight dishes from the past. If there is a dish you miss from Biga on the Banks or our original location Restaurant Biga, let us know and we’ll consider including it on our special 10 year anniversary menu. Send your favorite dish suggestion to suggestions@biga.com
