German-Style Festivities at the MOA National Rally
2011 BMW MOA International Rally • Bloomsburg, PA, July 21-24, 2011
Interview with Blechblos’n Frontman Anderl Laubert:
1. What exactly does the band’s name mean?
Blechblos’n is the connection of Blech, in English brass, because when we started 22 years ago all songs
were played on brass instruments and we still use them much for every kind of songs today.
Blos’n is a Bavarian slang for a group of people having much fun together.
2. How did the band get together in the beginning? Is it still the original line-up?
When we were little boys we were members of a big Bavarian junior brass orchestra, so we knew each other
and a few of us met to play a few songs for an aunt’s birthday. We earned free snacks and drinks and thought:
„Hey, that’s great, let’s do this often in future“. So we started the band and the line-up changed only in
one place, otherwise the members are the same for more than 20 years now.
3. I have seen you play twice but I’m still not sure how to describe your music – can you please help?!
It’s a wide range of many kinds of music, but I think the secret are the own arrangements using the brass
section also for pop and rock songs. This gives a nice soul touch to our songs, but we never forget our
traditional Bavarian folk-songs and so we get a good mixture to make people of every age and nation happy.
4. The band members always look like they are having a lot of fun on stage – is this part of your success?
No fun, no success. I think you can’t play good music if you don’t enjoy what you are doing there. That’s the
main reason we made the band our fulltime job in 1997. Sure, everybody needs some money to live, but the
fun for our audience and for us is much more important. We got all 3 things under one hat :-)
5. Who are your musical influences?
OK, we are all around 40 years old now and so we prefer what we heard in our youth time, but we are also
open for actually charts breakers. I think if you are able to play nearly 400 songs from the roaring twenties
till today the list of influences is too long. Eight guys, eight tastes of music, that brings a good mixture.
6. What have been the best highlights of the band’s career so far?
First of all the four times at the BMW Motorad days for sure, but there were many great events and journeys
to other countries like Great Britain, Israel or Malta for example.
In 2000 we won 1st place and became music-king in a German television show. There were many other TV
events also in Austria and Switzerland. Always highlights are the parties for „FC Bayern München“ and many
other sport events along with our main sponsor „Erdinger Weißbier“.

Interview with Blechblos’n-Frontman Anderl Laubert – BMW Motorrad Days (part 2)
7. What is special about playing about BMW Motorrad Days and are you looking forward to returning
to Garmisch-Partenkirchen?
When I think back when we played there the first time I can’t believe to see so many bikers from all around
the world. When we started with a walking act like a marching band through the big tent there was party
on from the 1st second people climbed up on tables and were dancing and singing along to our songs.
We will love to make this happen again when it’s over I hope we had the best BMW biker party ever.
8. Is it different playing to international audiences, such as those at BMW Motorrad Days,
compared to playing to German fans only?
It sounds a bit rusty today, but a band wearing Bavarian lederhosen is still something special for some
international guests and there are often astonished faces when we start over with good old rock songs.
The Germans know the Blechblos’n, but for all the others it’s often a big surprise. That makes BMW
Motorad Days very special for our band.
9. What kind of musical programme should fans expect at BMW Motorrad Days?
I don’t want to tell all, but we start with traditional Bavarian brass music and finish with AC/DC.
Between there will be much fun, dancing and singing. We also will welcome a few show stars in costumes
then...
10. Are there any motorcyclists in the band?
Unfortunately not so far, there’s not enough time to enjoy biking because we’re on tour all summer long.
Maybe we will get a set of eight BMWs to get to the Motorad Days by bike next year, but that’s just a dream
I guess.
11. What is the biggest audience you have ever played to?
There was a big open-air in 2004 and we played in front of 100.000 people before the well-known German
rock band Scorpions. That was amazing and we will never forget this outstanding feeling.
12. How many concerts will you play this year?
Around 140 funny days we will have this year.
13. What are the best things about living in Bavaria?
Bavarian food, Bavarian beer and girls from all around the world at the BMW Motorad Days :-) |
