Fresh from victories in the World Enduro Championship and famously rugged Romaniacs races plus a magnificent podium finish in the most grueling one-day enduro event in the world, the Erzberg Rodeo, the new-for-2010 BMW G 450 X is undeniably the most technologically advanced street-legal enduro on the trail.

A unique coaxial front sprocket and extra long swingarm keeps chain tension extremely uniform and provides incredible, class-beating traction. Add 52hp from the 450cc fuel-injected engine, plus great handling and a low center of gravity thanks to the gas tank mounted beneath the seat and you're ready to roost.

The engine mapping on the new G 450 X has been reprogrammed for improved throttle response and to reduce engine braking, the Marzocchi front suspension internal cartridge has been completely redesigned for improved progression and adjustment range, the rear Ohlins suspension has been reworked to match the front and the seat shape and padding have been reformed for better riding ergonomics.  The G 450 X also gets new graphics and gold anodized front suspension tubes.

The bike will also come with an additional competition slip-on silencer so that customers can get even more performance out of the G 450 X if they are using it in a closed-course environment.

The new for 2010 BMW G 450 X, now available to ride and race in all 50 states. Demo it today at your local BMW motorcycles dealer.

BMW Motorrad is celebrating a great result at the 2009 Roof of Africa. Riding a BMW G 450 X, South African Jade Gutzeit excelled in some of the toughest enduro conditions on the planet to finish the three-day encounter in third place. Elsewhere, the inimitable Andreas ‘Letti' Lettenbichler was among the leading group of riders before an unlucky encounter with the challenging terrain ended his race – and hopes of a debut victory.

Held in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa, the ‘Roof' is recognized as one of the most arduous enduro events in the world. >> learn more

Franco Caimi and BMW G 450 X win
Argentinean Enduro Championship

BMW Motorrad colleagues and fans in South America are currently celebrating as BMW G 450 X rider Franco Caimi has won the prestigious 2009 Argentinean Enduro Championship.

Twenty-one-year-old Caimi has been a fantastic ambassador for the brand throughout 2009, having begun the year racing the G 450 X alongside Joel Smets and Dakar rider Andrés Memi in front of more than 70,000 fans at the Summer Enduro Gesell Le Touquet in Argentina. This demanding and exhausting race – which saw about 1,000 riders compete – saw Franco put in a great performance to fight from near the back of the field up to 11th place after falling during the first lap when another participant knocked him off his motorcycle. >> learn more

David White and Morton's BMW G 450 X Win in Hare Scrambles

Seven-time Virginia Hare Scrambles champion David White added another crown to his collection by capturing the Senior A division in the 2009 Virginia Championship Hare Scramble Series aboard the Morton's BMW G 450 X.

White's eighth state title came after a four-year layoff and marked the first time Morton's BMW Motorcycles of Fredericksburg, Virginia, ever competed in off-road racing events. He won seven of the 14 races in the series, including six in a row, and his championship is the first ever in Virginia hare scrambles for BMW. In fact, the 500-member VCHSS had never even seen a BMW in its 25-year history. His competitors nicknamed the G 450 X "The Beast" for its power and relative size.

David White and Dewey Keeton, the Morton's BMW Master Certified Technician (and past off-road racer), made only basic modifications to the bike such as softer seat and removal of front fork spring spacers, combined with a dialing in of the suspension and a little added fuel capacity.  These simple mods, helped make the G 450 X the dominating bike in the field.

Morton's BMW, which has a history of supporting Nate Kern, Steve Kennedy, and Richard Cooper in road racing, took on the challenge of dirt racing earlier this year. With the advent of the G 450 X and its stellar off-road abilities, dealer principal Jeff Massey saw an opportunity to expand the market for the BMW brand and with the help of David White, Dewey Keeton and Steve Anderson (Sales & Marketing Manager) brought home the championship.

A&S BMW, Jordan Brandt & G 450 X all set for AMA NEC in 2010
THIS JUST IN: A&S BMW in Roseville, CA is supporting nationally ranked rider Jordan Brandt to contest all 10 rounds of the AMA National Enduro Championship (NEC) for 2010.

A&S, Brandt and the G 450 X will also be attending 10 rounds of local AMA District 36 Cross Country races and 4 rounds of local AMA District 36 Enduro series.  Brandt won the season opener last year. We are wishing for the same result this year and of course a great start to the entire race season.  We'll be eagerly following A&S BMW's new racing season and all of us at BMW wish the team much success.

Jim Hyde and a small group of off-road adventurers are in South America following the 2010 Dakar Argentina/Chile rally route. Jim's team are all on GS bikes of varying sizes, including the R 1200 GS, R 1200 GS Adventure, F 800 GS and F 650 GS. Jim had been sending enthusiastic e-mail blogs from his trip and we'd like to share a bit of it with you.

"I don't quite know how to convey the magnitude of what it means personally to me to not only be witnessing but also riding the Dakar Rally. This is one of the things on my bucket list, and truly one of the things that I wanted to do before I die. So yeah – it's a big deal to me at a personal level.   No - I am not racing, I am not a competitor in this ‘the mother of all races' - I am actually just a tourist -  tagging along the route! Here we are in Cordoba, Argentina - 11 ‘Norte-Americanos' planning to ride 3000 miles (mostly off-road) in 11 days as we follow the course of the toughest off road race in the world."

"So here's the story - over the last three days we have been shadowing the rally through the Atacama Desert in Chile. The Atacama makes the Sahara desert look like a jungle... there is no oasis here... there is no life. There are no birds... there are no insects... for hundreds of miles there is absolutely nothing alive... not a single blade of grass... and thus it's a perfect place to race. The race zig zags back and forth over the desert and every time it crosses a paved road there is a checkpoint... and thus a place for us to watch the action. A car or truck will come hauling out of the desert... the guy at the check point starts frantically waving his arms to make sure the driver sees him... the vehicle comes skidding to a halt, the guy at the checkpoint stamps a time card presented to him by either the co-pilot or rider and they hit the gas again... there are police standing in the road to stop traffic... and that's how it goes."

When Jim Hyde and his lucky team members return from the Dakar rally by the end of the month, please drop by Jim's web site http://www.rawhyde-offroad.com/home.html for a fully detailed account of this once in a life time adventure.

BMW Motorrad USA Strongest Brand in
Declining Motorcycle Market

Strong Dealer Network, New Products, Make BMW Best Performing Motorcycle Company in America.  According to just-released Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) reports, BMW Motorrad USA outperformed all of its competitors in 2009.  Despite a U.S. motorcycle market that declined 41 percent and lost nearly 360,000 units, BMW motorcycle sales only declined 22 percent, which was the smallest decline among all motorcycle brands.  This follows on the heels of 2008 when BMW Motorrad USA was one of only two motorcycle manufacturers to post positive growth.

"Our dedicated dealers were the key to our success this past year," commented Todd Andersen, BMW Motorrad USA Marketing Manager.  "Despite the tough market, they continued serve our customers well and promote our new products like the K 1300 S and the K 1300 GT.  They were supported by attractive financing programs from BMW Financial Services.  While many other dealers struggled to finance their customers' purchases, BMW dealers never lost access to good financing, and this will continue for 2010."

"We expect significant sales growth in 2010," said Andersen, "on the strength of the launch of the production version of the S 1000 RR Superbike, the most powerful and sophisticated sport bike ever produced.  Our dealers have confirmed deposits on over 600 bikes and deliveries to customers will begin January 26."

Also slated for the coming year are new versions of BMW Motorrad's most popular models:  the R 1200 GS, the R 1200 GS Adventure and the R 1200 RT.
